“Freiburg Science Fair” Postponed

The event will not be held until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic

The “Freiburg Science Fair,” originally planned for 19 and 20 June 2020, is being postponed until the year 2021. The organizers of the event – the University of Freiburg and Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG (FWTM) – made the decision in response to the worldwide increase in cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections and the resulting restrictions.

The health of the exhibitors, visitors, staff, and the public has top priority in this situation. A trouble-free preparation and implementation cannot be expected under the current conditions. The organizers will inform the public in good time about the exact dates for the rescheduled event in 2021.

Bringing Research to Life

Ever since its founding in 1457, the University of Freiburg has shaped the life of the city and the region like no other institution. Today the Freiburg region is home to a wide variety of outstanding higher education institutions and research institutes. All of them make a fundamental contribution to growth and innovation in the region with their research and teaching.

The university has been holding its Science Fair for many years as a means of presenting to citizens the spectrum of its research landscape. This year the event is also part of the festivities marking Freiburg’s anniversary, the theme of which is “900 Years Young.” Thanks to support from the city and our co-organizer Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe (FWTM), thousands of visitors can experience the fascination with research in the heart of the city. Around 60 stands invite visitors to marvel as experts bring research to life and to try things out on their own. Our goal and our motivation is to spark pleasure and interest in research and intensify the dialogue with the public.

We are delighted that the region’s higher education institutions, external research institutes, and research-based companies are taking part in this market of knowledge, thus underscoring Freiburg’s status as a research hub. We would also like to thank all exhibitors as well as our partners and sponsors, who have worked to make this event possible.

We wish all visitors to the Science Fair fascinating insights into the world of research and teaching!
